1. Obligate the question at the beginning - can you tell our readers something of your history?
The five pieces-band, Anthenora, was founded by Luigi, Fabio and Stefano when we were schoolmates in 1990 in Saluzzo, a small town near Turin, Italy. The moniker of the band has been inspired by Dante Aligheri's "Divina Commedia (Inferno ch. XXXII), Anthenora is a frozen lake in Inferno (hell), where the betrayers of the homeland are punished. In the nineties we have released three demo-tapes: Bring me to Hell (1991), Heretical Symphonies (1994) and Demo'ns (1998). From 1998 to 2004 we has been one of the most known Italian Iron Maiden tribute band, playing all around the country also with Nicko McBrain in Italy and Greece. The strong belief in the chance of the band and the support of the estimators, led us to create new original songs. In autumn 2002 the we released a new self-produced promo EP titled "The General's awakening. In september 2003 we recorded our first full-lenght album "The Last Command released the 22nd march 2004 by the spanish-german label Locomotive Records (www.locomotiverecords.com). In 2005 we recorded the 2nd full-lenght album titled "Soul Grinder that has been released on 2006 by the Italian label My Grave Yard Productions (www.mygraveyardproductions.com).
2. You still remember what was the first impulse that you began to pursue music? The passion for heavy metal and a strong frienship. I like to remember that 3 of the 5 members of Anthenora (i Fabio, the singer Gigi and the guitar player Stefano) are still the same form the beginning in the 90s.
3. Most of us had a pattern, which of musicians or musical groups most shaped the direction of individual members AnthenorA. each member of anthenora has his musical idols. Anyway we all have breathe the 80s heavy metal air, mostly the european one than the american. So i could write: Saxon, Maiden, Judas Priest, Running Wild, Gamma Ray, Rage, Black Sabbath.
4. Currently, those planning a joint tour including the Divine Vision and White Skull, where you will play two concerts in the Czech Republic. Is this your first visit with us or you are with us already played? No, we have not been in your Country before. Sometimes ago ive visited the Czech Republic but its our first visit to play.
5. How did you get into their ranks your guitarist who has worked with or vzpomínaných and our well-known White Skull. Classically through bankruptcy or upon recommendation of someone? We live near Turin, in the Piemonte region, and also Danilo Bar lives there. He is an old friend of us. We met 10 years ago and when, twoyears ago, we were searching for a new guitar player, we all thought that he was the right person: he is a great musician but also a great man. And so we call him to propose to join the band.
6. When you say Italy and the music in Bohemia everyone remembers Rhapsody (now Rhapsody Of Fire) or the aforementioned Vision Divine and White Skull. Can you recommend some other good contemporary Italian band? There are several good band in Italy in each metal style. It is a scene that has powerfully grown in the last years. But i prefer to give no name to not create conflict with the bands i could forget to name.
7. Similar to other question, you know some Czech bands and, if so, who approached artistically You? Alternatively, you heard the band, who will be in Brno and Prague to play? No, we didnt know czech band before. But we appreciated the band we will play with in Prague and Brno. I think we are lucky to have the opportunity to walk on the same stage and to meet them. I hope that we could become friends.
8. Recently, much debated issue - the internet and illegal downloading of music. You can comment on this subject from the perspective of a musician? Do you think that music and performers in turn harm or, conversely, thrive? A publishing companies should reconsider its pricing policy for example? The truth is in your last words: first of all, the publishing companies should reconsider their pricing policy. In the last years the price of cds has icreased so much and so, as a logical conseguence of the power of the new informatical instruments, people started to download evry day much more music. For a band as Anthenora, as for every band that is not a metal idol as the Father (AC/DC; Maiden; Metallica and so on) i think that the web is a great opportunity to promote music much more than a wall to break.
9. But let the new board. It seems to me that you have prepared quite a long time. What was at fault? Four years have passed by form our last work Soulgrinder released in 2006. In these years we had two change in the band. Danilo Bar, as we wrote, has joined the band and we had to change also the bas player that decide to walk other musical paths. They left the band just when we started to write the songs for the new album. When the new members joined the band we decided to rewrite all the stuff for the album to give them the opportunity to write with us and give their style to the songs. This is the reason for the long time from one album and the other.
10. Record I ever heard, so I would like to ask if you have returned to their roots, as you told me once, or rather continue the progressive direction. The new album is more like the first (The last Command) than the second (Soulgrinder). Songs are short with open chorus. Soulgrinder was more hard to hear, strong. With the new album we choose to write with more attention to the melodic aspect. But well wait the review.
11. What or who is Iwo Jima from the name of your new records? Iwo Jima is an island of the Ocean Pacific that in the II word world was the teathre of several bloody battles. Two years ago Clint Eastwood has done a film based on these events. But all our new album is based on events of the II world war.
12. The Ghosts of Iwo Jima, after The Last Command and Soulgrinder your third album. You are already at the stage where the music you can earn a living or even have a "civilian" job? Even if wev published our 3rd album, we have a civilian job as you wrote except of Danilo Bar who is also a music teacher.
13. In connection with the concerts it is better Southern audience (Italy, Spain, etc.) or you better play before an audience of northern countries? Up to now, I think that the audience of northern countries is better.
14. Your dream is a place where you would like to play and to remember the location currently prefer? And who (band, artist) would you most like standing on one stage. If you ask me a place where we dream to play and the band to stand on stage with, i say Iron Maiden in any place of the earth. Because of we played with Nicko Mc Brain in several occasions during his drum clinic shows in Italy and Greece, we than have the opportunity to meet the other members of Maiden during some festivals. They were our music idol from the teen age and so we realised a dream. The next dream is the opportunity to play on the same stage!
15. What are your plans in the near future (in addition to the abovementioned tour) - preparation of new tracks, more concerts and performances in some festivals? In the near future we planned to play to promote our music in Italy and abroad trying to be part of some festival maybe the next year (2011). We hope to release the album a little bit before the 26 of march. Now its too late and the bills for the festival of the next summer are now more or les completed.
16. Would you like anything to say to fans in the Czech Republic? We hope yoll enjoy our music and thanks a lot for all your support.
